Fitness for Champions
In this post, I would like to share with you some of my fitness goals for the year, as well as my philosophy on health and fitness. One of my biggest concerns with modern day society is that it is becoming widely accepted that as we hit middle age, it is perfectly acceptable for us to be on multiple medications, have clogged arteries, be overweight, and lose our strength and flexibility. Keto Week 4: Back to Heavy Lifting
I have to say, this Keto thing isn’t so tough after all! Just to recap briefly, we started a strict Ketogenic diet on January 1, 2018. We are doing this diet for the myriad of health benefits it offers, many of which are just now being verified by traditional American medicine and medical research. Health benefits include stable energy throughout the day, no blood sugar swings, clarity of thought, better functioning of the metabolism, a calmer stomach, increased longevity, an

Keto Week 3: Keto for Women
So, somewhere in my third week of Keto, I got my period and experienced some of the worst cramps I have ever had in my life. It was awful. I could hardly walk at the end of the day and crawled to our bathroom to take the hottest Epsom salt bath with lavender oil I could stand. I think I stayed in the bath for an hour before I crawled into bed that night. It was terrible! Now, this really caught me by surprise, because I have been lucky in that my periods have historically bee

Keto Week 2: Why I'm Trying Keto
Reflecting on my second week of a full Keto diet, so many people have asked me why I’m even trying this diet. They say that it is just another fad diet and as long as you eat in moderation, you’ll live a happy and healthy life. I used to believe in the moderation diet. That is the diet I have lived by pretty much my whole life. However, I have also been sick most of my life with digestive issues. Beginning as a child, I have shown sensitivity to not only what foods I eat, but

Keto Week 1 Reflections
Now that we have been following the Keto diet for a week, here are some of the changes and challenges we have experienced. We both woke up feeling fine for work Thursday morning and were powering through the work day with a surprising amount of smooth energy. Unfortunately, Lindsay started to feel very bad after eating a large lunch. She got nauseous, clammy, rapid heartbeat, and proceeded to lose her lunch. After about an hour after her stomach settled, she then had a bone b

Keto Day 3
We both slept well last night! Some waking up to pee again, but much better sleep and woke up feeling refreshed and energized. We started the day with the usual coffee/tea mix, along with our supplements. We had a lazy morning of reading and relaxing. Typically, when we sit and read for more than 30 minutes we both get tired and want a nap. However, neither of us felt that way today, which is hopefully a good sign that keto is working for us. We then had a late breakfast of e

Keto Day 2
We both did not sleep well. Restless sleep with going to the bathroom a lot. In the morning, we both had a slightly rapid and harder heartbeat than normal. This is part of transitioning into ketosis and is due to electrolyte and fluid loss as your body goes to burning fat instead of glucose for energy. We had our usual tea/coffee blend, with some electrolytes and water with a pinch of himalayan sea salt first thing in the morning. Within about 30 minutes we both felt normal a

New Year, New Journey
Happy 2018! We hope you had a great 2017, and are ready for a fresh start in the new year! We haven’t been on here in awhile, but we decided to give it another go, and modify the website a bit. We are also going to be starting the ketogenic diet this year, and want to share our experience with you. Keto Diet Just to provide a little background, the Keto Diet is an extremely high fat, moderate protein and low carbohydrate diet. It was invented in the 1920’s to help treat epile
